Under the theme "Cohesion and Commitment," the Embassy of Algeria in Namibia commemorated the National Immigration Day, which marks the sixty-fourth (64th) anniversary of the massacres of October 17, 1961, in Paris.
The ceremony began with the observance of a minute of silence, listening to the national anthem, and the raising of the national flag, followed by the laying of a wreath of flowers and the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha in memory of the souls of the righteous martyrs who sacrificed their lives for freedom and dignity.
During this event, His Excellency the Ambassador of Algeria to Namibia, Mr. Abdelkrim Diaf, delivered an address in which he highlighted the deep symbolism of this anniversary in the liberation struggle of our Algerian people. He affirmed that it is an eternal milestone that embodies the resilience of Algerians in the face of brutal colonialism, and a commemoration of the sacrifices of our community abroad who faced the most heinous forms of repression and brutality during the peaceful marches in October 1961, for which the waters of the Seine River still bear witness to the pure blood of the martyrs.
His Excellency the Ambassador also called upon the members of the national community in Namibia to take pride in their glorious history and to preserve the national memory, and to continue the path of building and edifying our dear homeland, in loyalty to the sacrifices of the ancestors and to safeguard the martyrs' trust.
